For shipping purposes,  we have taken the same truffle mix and created an off the hook delicious truffle cup. The filling is a cashew/pignoli cream blended into dark chocolate with chopped cacao nibs and cherries blended in.  The cup itself will be dark chocolate with a touch of coconut oil and cashew butter.  Insanely good!

This vegan’s Mom

Sunday, May 10th, 2009

It doesn’t take much thinking to come up with a time when my Mom has been incredible.  Those amongst us lucky enough to have on-going relationships with our Mom’s know exactly what I mean.  The bond between a Mother and her child is the most enduring and unconditional bond.   I just love it when she smiles.   I believe her smile gets broader with each passing year!

Not just another Mother....

Not just another Mother....

When I think of who I am today, and how I got here, I think of my Mom.  The strength to be who I am.  That is probably the greatest gift she gave me.
One thing we share,  is our love of making food. We love to cook for each other. We incorporate good food into everything we do.  Shopping trips, baseball games, anything we do is highlighted by a great meal.  She is so at home in a kitchen.  She is always messing with a recipe and adding to it.  When I was younger, I used to be right in there with her watching. She has no regard for the sanctity of a recipe. She changes a recipe before she tries it. Then when it comes out great, she changes the recipe again and makes it better, just cause she can. My brother always says you can’t get the same thing twice in our house. Possibly a slight exaggeration, but basically true. One of my favorite kitchen memories is from a long time ago before I became a vegan. It was one of our finest collaborations.  She made souvlaki and sauce and I made fresh pita.  What an awesome meal that was! A feast! Or there was the time I had a HUGE catering job for Thanksgiving. I was so sick, and she swooped in and whipped up three meals for 100 people just like that. When I had a retail food shop she would come and make guest dishes. The woman can cook! But the reason she is such a good cook is cause she is so full of love. Love for what she is making and love for feeding people – the consummate Mothering act.

My Mom is the ultimate loyal Mom.  She would do anything for any one of her children.  At any time.  And the more friends I have with children, the more I understand that that is a characteristic of the job.  But not all Mom’s excel.  Mine does.  She loves to laugh and smile and talk and share and just be herself.  And for this I thank her.

Happy Mother’s Day to all Mom’s out there. Especially mine!
